It was the second point of three, and you were in the third row, because you had always been in the third row.
He did not use your surname. He did not have to. He said your first name and then he said the situation, the one you had told him in a room with the door shut eleven days earlier, and about a third of the congregation turned around, and the rest of them very carefully did not.
He was not being cruel. You have thought about this for two years and you still believe that. He was making a point about trusting God in a hard providence and he thought he was honoring you, and afterward at the door he squeezed your arm and said thank you for letting me share that, which is a sentence you have never once been able to unpack.
You did not let him. He did not ask.
You went back twice more and then you stopped. You did not make a scene. You did not send an email. You just stopped, and about four people asked, and you said something about the drive, and that was the end of nine years.
You go to a different church now and it is fine. It is genuinely fine. You are not in a crisis.
It is only that the ring road runs past the end of that street, and you drive it on Tuesdays, and every single Tuesday you see the roof of that building from about four hundred yards out, and something comes up out of you that you have never once said out loud to another person, and it is not a prayer.

Stephen said it while it was still happening
Pull over at the top of that road for a minute. There is a park and there is nobody about and I am not going to hurry you.
Let me say the true thing first, because Scripture will not have me softening it and the Spirit does not do management: that was yours and he took it. He had it because you gave it to him in confidence, and he used it in front of three hundred people without asking, and thank you for letting me share that is not a permission, it is a description offered after the fact. Nothing in this article requires you to call it something smaller than it was, and God is not confused about what happened in that room or from that platform.
Now come and look at a man who said something good out loud in a much worse moment than yours.
And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.Acts 7:60
Stephen. Being stoned. Not afterward, not in recovery, not a decade later at a conference talking about what he had learned. During. With his own blood on him and the men who were doing it standing right there.
And look at what he says. He does not say it did not matter, and he does not say they were misunderstood, and he does not excuse a single stone. Lay not this sin to their charge names it as sin, out loud, in the same breath as it asks for it not to be counted. He calls it what it is and hands it to God in one sentence.
You are permitted to name it as wrong and bless him in the same breath, and Scripture has already shown you how that sentence is built. That is not me being clever with a woman who was hurt in a third row. That is what Stephen said and what it contains, and the Holy Spirit is the one who takes something that old and lays it in a car at the top of a road.
Here is what nobody explains about blessing a man who did that. When you say a blessing over him, you are not saying it was fine, and you are not offering him access, and you are not going back to that building. You are agreeing out loud with what God has already said about a man He made. Your mouth is a door. God is the one going through it. It grants nobody anything and it reopens nothing.
A blessing said in your car on a Tuesday does not return you to that congregation and does not put you back in that room. Scripture says the Lord requires truth in the inward parts (Psalm 51:6), which means He is not asking you to pretend a single thing you do not believe, and the Spirit has never once wanted a woman to lie in order to be free.
What comes up on Tuesdays
Now let me name what is actually happening on that ring road, and I want you to hear that I am not correcting you for it.
You have not been able to put down the sentence, because there was never anywhere to put it. You never had the conversation. Nobody ever said sorry. Nobody in that building knows the nine years ended over anything; they think you moved church. So the whole event is still open, and an open event needs somewhere to go every time you see a roof.
That is not unforgiveness in the way people use the word to bully somebody who has been hurt. It is a real wrong with no address, and what is written never once required a woman to have received an apology before she could be free. The Spirit is not standing on that ring road with a list.
God saw what happened from that platform, and He has never needed a complaint from you in order to have the whole of it. It is written that all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do (Hebrews 4:13), and the same Spirit who breathed that sentence is in the passenger seat on a Tuesday, which is why it lands as a fact and not as a comfort.
Hear what I am not doing. I am not telling you to go back, to send the email, to have coffee with him, or to be reconciled to that congregation. Nothing here asks you for contact of any kind, and you do not owe that building a single thing. Blessing is not reconciliation. It is not permission. It does not put you within four hundred yards of anybody.
What you say in a car at the top of a road is a real thing, and it is complete without one person in that church ever knowing it happened. God's word does not come back to Him empty (Isaiah 55:11), and the Spirit is the one carrying it, and it does not need to reach a pulpit to have been said.
So here is what is true at the top of this road, with the engine ticking.
The blessing exists. God settled it in Christ before either of you was born, it is written down where anybody can go and read it, and the Holy Spirit is in this car to carry it. What is missing is not the truth about that Sunday. What is missing is one sentence in place of another, said out loud, with nobody listening.
You are free to bless a man who has not earned it, and it grants him nothing and costs you nothing that is actually yours. Nobody has ever had to feel forgiving in order to speak God's word over another person. Faith is an open hand and not a performance, God is the one who fills the hand, and the Spirit does the carrying; what He carries is what is written.
I am not going to tell you what happens to him, or to that pulpit, or whether anybody in that building ever works out why the third row was empty. That belongs to God, and He has the whole of it, and I have no authority to hand you a season for it. What I can tell you is what is already settled, because it is written and I am only reading it out where you can hear it: Stephen named it as sin and asked God not to count it, in one sentence, out loud, while it was still happening to him.
That roof has had your Tuesdays for two years. Take them back.
Declare this over yourself
Say these out loud, sitting up in that car, because a blessing is spoken and not thought. You have the standing to say them, and not because you have finally stopped minding. You are in Christ and Christ is in you, so the authority to speak God's word over another person is His authority, handed to you and carried by His Spirit. Scripture says whoever speaks to the mountain and does not doubt shall have what he says. Says. Out loud. So say it here, to a thing that has come up in you on a ring road every Tuesday for two years. What God does about that man is His to decide, and none of it is yours to produce.
- Sunday morning when three hundred people turned around, you happened and you are not the last word over me. Scripture says Stephen said lay not this sin to their charge, and he said it out loud with the stones still coming.
- Sentence that meets me at four hundred yards every Tuesday, get out of this car in the name of Jesus. It is written that all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do, and He has never needed my complaint in order to have the whole of it.
- Lord, You saw what came off that platform and You have never asked me to call it smaller. I thank You, because Your face is shining on me tonight and Your Spirit is the one carrying it, and I am pulled over at the top of this road saying his name and the good after it.
